ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT VALIDATION
The average time needed for a student to complete a program is six semesters for each of the three diplomas offered, which all share the same core curriculum.
The different academic programs require between 450 to 500 credit hours per year, depending on the academic department and the program the student chooses. Class hours are generally broken up during the week as follows:
- 10 - 12 hrs. at ESM
- 4 - 5 hrs. at the University of Burgundy.
DNSPM/3-year bachelor's degree
For this combined degree, both the DNSPM and the bachelor's degree can be earned at the completion of the student's third year.
DNSPM/DE/3-year bachelor's degree
For this combined degree, the DNSPM, DE and bachelor's degree can be earned at the completion of the student's third year.
DNSPM/DE/4-year bachelor's degree
For this program, students can earn a DNSPM and bachelor's degree at the completion of their third year and can earn the DE certification by following a specific schedule for DE core classes in their fourth year.
3-year DE degree for students in a Continuing Education and Training program
Eligible DE candidates can earn their DE in only three years by following an intensive program, which requires 1,350 credit hours (PLA not included).
Certain course loads can be lightened for candidates who have previously completed studies in subjects directly related to certain courses taught at the ESM, or who have professional experience relevant to a program's syllabus.
Depending on the student's prior academic and professional experience, an internal committee from ESM will decide on which classes and the number of hours from which the student will be exempt. The core courses for a given degree are validated in total if the student has previously earned a degree that is equivalent to an ESM degree (bachelor of arts in musicology, for example).
