ENTRANCE EXAM FOR THE VOCAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT

AUDITION AND WRITTEN EXAM

The written portion of the exam requires the applicant to write an essay analyzing one or more documents (literary and/or musical).

The audition for vocalists is divided into three parts:

  • Performance of pieces of music or musical excerpts selected by the jury from a list supplied by the applicant. The repertoire is chosen by the applicant and lasts 30 minutes. It must include at least three pieces from different periods or genres.
  • Sight-singing in an a cappella group
  • 10-15 minute interview

The audition for vocal ensemble conductors is divided into four parts:

  • Conducting: the applicant will prepare four vocal ensemble pieces and submit a list with these pieces to the jury 3 weeks before the audition. On the day of the audition, the applicant will have 30 minutes to prepare the two pieces chosen by jury.
  • Performance of a song that the applicant has prepared
  • Sight-singing in an a cappella group
  • 10-15 minute interview
