ENTRANCE EXAM FOR THE CLASSICAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT

AUDITION AND WRITTEN EXAM

The written portion of the exam requires the applicant to write an essay analyzing one or more documents (literary and/or musical).

The audition is divided into three parts:

  • Performance of pieces of music or musical excerpts selected by the jury from a list supplied by the applicant. The repertoire is chosen by the applicant and lasts 30 minutes. It must include at least three pieces from different periods or genres.
  • Individual or group sight-reading
  • 10-15 minute interview

For the DE music theory program: one of the three pieces must include a performance of a song in which the applicant shall be accompanied by a polyphonic instrument. Sight-singing shall be performed in an a cappella group.
For the DE accompaniment program: at least two pieces of music and sight-reading/sight-singing shall be played as an accompanist part (instrument and/or voice).

The repertoire for instrumental performances for applicants auditioning for both a music program and a specialization in a musical instrument is only performed once in front of the jury. It is counted as an audition for the music theory program as well as for the specialization.

The written exam will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, .... in Dijon and will take half a day. It will last until 5 p.m. at the latest.

Auditions will take place in Dijon:

  • The week of .... for guitar and piano;
  • The week of ... for stringed instruments;
  • Starting .... for all other instruments.
