ENTRANCE EXAM FOR THE POP AND JAZZ MUSIC DEPARTMENT

The written portion of the exam requires the applicant to write an essay analyzing one or more documents (literary and/or musical).

The audition for pop and jazz is divided into three parts:

• Applicants are required to submit a list of songs (lasting 30 mins. total) that includes both personal compositions and cover pieces relevant to their music aesthetic (area of specialization). The jury will choose songs from this list and require the applicant to play for 10-15 minutes. The applicant will be required to play at least four pieces (mix of personal composition and covers). If there are several applicants in the group, each applicant must have his/her own repertoire with at least two pieces that differ from the other applicants in the group (including at least one personal composition). In order to limit the amount of time spent setting up, the number of musicians per group is limited to five. Applicants must come to the audition with their own instrumental or vocal accompanists. Playing or singing on a backing track is prohibited.
• Adaptation and reinterpretation of a musical excerpt with 10 minutes allotted to prepare
• 10-15 minute interview.

The written exam will be held on .... in Dijon and will take half a day. The exam starts at 1:30 p.m. It will last until 5 p.m. at the latest.

Auditions will take place the week of .... (these dates may be subject to change). They will take place in Chalon-sur-Saône or Dijon and take half a day.
