The aim of the project is to be in direct contact with the realities of the activities of the professions. The ESM prepares its students to master and understand the art of music, and to practice this art professionally. Its identity is characterized by creation, mediation and professionalization.
The identity of the ESM project is developed around 5 key areas :
• ensemble and group practice: chamber music, string orchestra, vocal ensembles, contemporary music groups and workshops, large contemporary music ensembles...
• creation, improvisation and contemporary music: commissions for composers, creation modules as part of the student curriculum.
• multi-disciplinarity and cross-disciplinarity of aesthetics are embodied in courses and projects common to all three departments,
• new technologies.
• students' artistic and stage productions, formalized in a season of broadcasts (over fifty concerts/shows a year), draw on the rich relationships forged with numerous regional and national professional production and broadcasting structures.
ESM Bourgogne-Franche-Comté has a nonprofit leadership and is headed by a board of trustees that includes its public partners (the State/Ministry of Culture, the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, the City of Dijon, the district council of Dijon Métropole, the combined district council of Grand Chalon and the University of Burgundy) and four qualified personalities.
