To apply to an undergraduate program at ESM Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, applicants must meet the following requirements:

- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency certificate (for example, a GED or DAEU or certain level-4 RNCP certificates)

- Must have a degree in music (diplôme d'études musicales - DEM) or a professional national diploma (diplôme national d'orientation professionnelle - DNOP) or an equivalency diploma.

Requirement for applicants in continuing education and training programs can be found on the Certificate Course page.

If an applicant does not have the required degrees or certifications, he/she can submit a portfolio including any previous studies, degrees, diplomas/certificates and music experience. This condition mainly concerns vocalists and instrumentalists in the pop and jazz academic program.

International students, even those living in France, must submit a preliminary admission application (demande d'admission préalable - DAP) to the Department of Higher Education and Research (ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche) in order to enroll for the first year of their bachelor's degree.

Applicants with degrees earned in a foreign educational institution (including European and non-European) can also submit their portfolio to the ESM. Photocopies of foreign diplomas must include an official translation from a certified translator.

If you already have a bachelor of arts in musicology, you need to apply to the ESM according to the dates and requirements indicated on our website.

If you do not have a bachelor's degree in music, you need to apply to both the ESM and the University of Burgundy if:

  • you are already registered in the French university system (for example, if you studied at a different university for the first year of your undergraduate studies) then you need to apply to the ESM in accordance with the deadlines and requirements which you can find on this website;
  • you are not registered in the French university system then you must submit your application to the University of Burgundy (please refer to the University of Burgundy website).
